Sunday School

The Chandra Vidyalaya Sunday School at the Hanuman Mandir is an integral part of Mandir’s education initiative. We provide students with essential lessons in Hindu religious teachings, Indian cultural education and Hindi language lessons in the beautiful setting of our Hanuman Mandir.

Hindi Language

Younger grades learn to read and write vowels, learn small words for various places, people and things, and learn through short stories and rhymes. Our mid-level students learn to read and write Hindi consonants, apply this to make short words and practice basic conversation starters in Hindi. Our upper class will practice sentence creation, comprehension, and speaking in Hindi.

Our curriculum ranges from covering stories of Gods/Goddesses to Bhagwad Gita. Here are the topics that would be covered.

  • Dash Avatars of Lord Vishnu through stories, videos and pictures
  • Learn about the various Hindu Goddesses and Holy Trinity through stories, songs and illustrations
  • Bhagavatam
  • Ramayan I – focussing on the story of Ramayan through stories and videos.
  • Ramayan II – focuses on the 10 heads of Ravana, virtues and vices as seen in the Ramayana and critical thinking about distinguishing between right and wrong.
  • Mahabharata
  • Bhagwad Gita

Cultural Education

This applies to all students and will include learning about various Hindu festivals and significant Indian events like Independence day, Republic day, Gandhi Jayanti etc. Additionally, students learn prayer, bhajans and our Indian value system.
